This cozy ear warmer is a great first crochet cable project. It uses a basic left and right twisting rope type cable.
I have actually had this quick project on the docket since I published a crochet cable tutorial last spring but somehow it just kept getting pushed back and then I lost…. yes I said lost… the headband I already had done and of course had to start over. Good thing it works up fairly fast!
I can tell this is going to be one of my favorite accessories to wear this fall! It has been so chilly in the mornings already and this is easy enough to throw on on my way out the door to get the kids to school and looks cute too.

The pattern as written should fit most adult women but after a quick math session, I was able to come up with child and toddler/preschooler sizes too. Be sure to read the notes section to get the scoop on how to adjust the sizing. It also uses only 1/2 a skein of Lion Brand’s Touch of Alpaca yarn and yes it is as soft as it looks. This yarn is dreamy you guys!

Can you please clarify what “in front of” and “behind” mean in row 5? It seems like in front of would mean you are crocheting over the stitches just made. But it seems impossible to crochet behind stitches just made. Those particular phrases are confusing but otherwise row 5 makes sense to me.
I did review your link for crochet cables, however those phrases weren’t used in that tutorial.
Very pretty pattern. Halfway through my first one and love how it’s coming out.
Hi your handmade is great! Iam housewife,l havenot any income, could you allow me translate your crochet pattern in persian and sell them?
Hi Fatima, I’m so glad you like my pattern! Translating and selling the pattern would be a copyright infringement so I cant allow that. You are, however, more than welcome to sell your finished ear warmers.
too hard to follow, pattern is lovely but need a diagram or video
On row 5 when you go back to the skipper hdc, do you do that in front of the two fptrc before going behind to finish the cable?
Yes it looks like you’re leaving out a whole cable..Looks like there should be three but I know there’s only two. When you do row 3 it looks like you’re setting up 3 cables
It does look a little deceiving doesnt it! Each cable has 5 stitches and there is 1 between each of the cable set.
Oh my goodness! I wish I had noticed your tutorial on cable stitches sooner! Would have save me lots of grief! Hooray!😁🤗, I was able to follow the tut, made a sample. So on to the Ear Warmer!
I can’t thank you enough for sending me the link! And you’re right the stitch is easy! 👍😊
Oh dear! My comment went 3 times! So sorry! Didn’t think it was posting. Anyway to delete?
I’m frustrated also on row 5! I’ve pulled it out, read pattern over and over! I can’t get it to work out. I’m not new to post stitches either! The HDC in third skipped stitch has me stumped.
Anyone figure it out yet?
A diagram or video or photo of that row would be very helpful! Please! Oh, I bought my pattern also.
Thanks!
That means go back and crochet into the last of the 3 stitches you skipped before you did the post stitches.
Thank you for the help. Almost had the pattern figured out but then got stuck at the end of row 5, where it says working in front of post stitches just made, fpdtr around2 skipped sts 2 rows below. Hdc in last 2 sts.
If I read correctly, wouldn’t I have missed 2 posts sts in the middle below ? I’ll keep trying, something has to click soon I hope. Christmas is coming! 😏😕
Thanks!
Check out the cable tutorial I have linked in the post, it has a picture tutorial of the part your describing. 🙂
My grandaughter just requested that I make her some ear warmers for Christmas and this will be one of the ones I make. Like the first poster above I may also make one for myself.
In Rw.5, shouldn’t the second FPDTR be a BackPDTR?
Nope all the post stitches are work on the right side only.
I love the look of this but I find the pattern impossible to follow. Row 5 is particularly challenging and no matter how hard I try there is at least 5 stitches left over. A video would be really helpful.
Do you have a video for this thanks
Does your paid pattern have a diagram for the earwarmer, having issues with the cables. Been crocheting for a long time.
Thanks
Kathy
Hi, Very excited to try this pattern. Any chance there is a video tutorial to go along with this pattern. Some of the stitches are new to me. Fptr: front post treble crochet & Fpdtr: front post double treble crochet
I found that YouTube has great short vieos on these stitches and
I love this pattern and cannot wait to try it out. My granddaughter will love it but maybe I will make one for me as well….Thank you!
