Learn to Crochet the Grit Stitch

This stitch is easy peasy. If you can do the sedge stitch from block #4, you can do this one.  You’ll be making a single and double crochet all in the same stitch, then you skip one, then you do a single and double in the next and then you skip one and then… you get the idea I hope.

I learned the grit stitch early on in my crochet days, the very first baby blanket I made featured this lovely textured stitch so it will always hold a special place in my heart.

This easy crochet stitch looks great in stripes or solid colors, although I think some of the texture would be lost in a heavily variegated yarn. I did mine in this pretty pink from Red Heart Super Saver… I literally ran out of yarn right before the border so. Winning at yarn chicken is such fun haha. Grab your hook and let’s get started.

  1. I love this stitch. I have made 3 sets of scarf, hat and fingerless mitts using it as Christmas gifts for my sisters. Your stash busting squares have shown me so many beautiful stitches. Thank you for sharing, and making them so easy to understand!

  2. I want to make a full sized Afghan (about 50″x65″) out of these squares! Approximately how much yarn would you recommend?
