This loose stitch makes an airy and drapey fabric ideal for shawls, scarves, blankets or cardigans. Making this stitch will remind you of working a traditional double crochet!

This stitch feels very similar to working a standard double crochet stitch. You follow all the same steps but stop after the first ‘yarnover and pull through the first 2 loops’. When you complete the return pass, you’ll complete the stitch. To compensate for the height of this stitch, you’ll have to chain 1 at the beginning of each row.
Once you get in the rhythm of working this stitch, your project grows really quickly. I enjoyed this stitch and I think it would be well suited towards a variety of different projects. Anything where you want a nice drapey fabric. I really want to make a shawl with it!
This stitch has no curl but mine did pull towards one side and my square looked more like a diamond. Once I blocked it was straight. This stitch can be worked with any number of chains, just add 1 more to accomodate the height of this stitch.

- 105 yds worsted weight yarn, I Love This Yarn used in sample
- 6.5 mm Tunisian crochet hook
- 6 mm crochet hook (for border)
- Scissors + Yarn Needle
Gauge and Sizing
- Gauge: 6 sts x 3 rows = 2 in
- Worked in pattern stitch
- Finished Size: 12 in x 12 in after blocking

Special Stitches
Tunisian Double Stitch (TDS): Yarnover, insert hook from right to left under vertical bar, yarnover, pull up loop. Yarnover, pull through 2 loops.
Standard Return Pass: yo, pull through 1 loop, *yo, pull through 2 loops, repeat from * across until 1 loop remains on hook.
Notes
- Ch 1 at the beginning of each row.
- Minimal curling but mine leaned towards one side.
- To modify size, chain any number plus 1 more chain.

Tunisian Double Stitch – No Curl!
Foundation Row 1: Ch 36, yo, insert hook into 3rd ch from hook, yo, pull up loop. Yo pull through 2 loops. 1 Tds made. Tds in each ch across, keeping all loops on hook. (35 Loops). Complete standard return pass.
Row 2-End: Ch 1, TDS across until 1 bar remains. TDS the chain 1 of the last stitch from the previous row. (35 Loops). Complete the standard return pass. For me this was 16 rows.
Bind off Row: Insert your hook under 2nd vertical bar. Yo, pull through the vertical bar and loop on your hook. *Insert your hook under next vertical bar, yo, pull through the vertical bar and loop on your hook. Repeat from * across. Continue to border.
Border: Do not finish off. Using 6 mm crochet hook, ch 1, sc evenly around, placing (sc, ch 2 sc) in each corner. Join to top of 1st sc with slst. Finish off, weave in ends. Block to 12 inches. (35 Sc on each side)
**Note: the number of single crochets worked on each raw edge should be the same number as the top and bottom edges. You may have to add or subtract stitches to get 35 on the raw edges. Each square will have around 36 (+/- a couple of stitches, depending on the stitch multiple) to make joining easy and flat.
