Lake Breeze Pillow | Part 2 | Free Crochet Pattern | The Unraveled Mitten

You can find the part 1 HERE: Parts 3 and 4 will be released next week.

Today I am sharing Part 2 of the Lakeside Pillow Collection. After today you will have one of the two pillows done!  We are going to be crocheting the front panel of the Lake Breeze Pillow and joining the back and front together.

The front panel is made using a combo of traditional and solid granny squares that are joined using single crochet. That join forms a nice raised edge to each square. Then I added a simple single crochet in the back-loop border. I love the subtle texture of that stitch when it is worked in the round.

-Dc: Double Crochet

-Sl st: Slip Stitch

-Ch(s): Chain(s)

-Sp(s): Space(s)

-Sc: Single Crochet

Overall Pattern Notes

Ch 3 counts as Dc

For the traditional granny squares I used only 4 of the 5 colors: Cream, sky blue, medium denim and denim, changing colors each round. The 5th color (soft gray) I saved for my center solid square, joins and border. I did this on purpose so my joins stood out.

Joining your granny Squares

Lake Breeze Pillow | Single Crochet Join | Part 2 | Free Crochet Pattern | The Unraveled Mitten

I chose to use a single crochet join, this gave me the raised edges around each square. To do this you need to put wrong sides together and then using your 5th color ( soft gray for me) single crochet through the back loop of the front square and the front loop of the back square. You will join the horizontal rows first starting at the bottom and then the vertical ones. Sarah over at Repeat Crafter Me has a fantastic photo tutorial on how to do this join, you can find that HERE.

Border

Rnd 1. Using same color as your joins, for me this was the Soft Gray,  Ch 1, sc in same st as ch 1 and in each stitch around placing 5 sc in each corner space. Join to top of first sc

Rnd 2-5: WORKING IN BLO FOR ENTIRE ROUND. Ch 1, sc in same st as ch 1 and in each stitch around placing 3 sc in each corner stitch. Join to top of first sc using a sl st. Note: I changed color after round 3 to medium denim.

Lets make a pillow!

Now we get to put this pillow together!! Yay! Who’s excited?!

Put your to panels together with wrong sides together. Choose your join color. I picked the denim.  Attach your yarn through both panels near one of the corners. Ch 1, Sc same st as ch 1 and in each around, placing 3 sc in each corner until you have 3 sides joined. Slip your pillow form into the pocket and continue to sc the pocket closed. Join to top of first sc with a sl. st. Cut yarn and weave in ends. Ta-da!!

  1. Love the pattern and colors! I was looking at different colors to use and went back to the blues. The directions say “in each stitch around placing 3 sc in each corner stitch.” I have 5 sc stitches in each corner and so not sure where the 3 sc go? Hope this makes sense.

  2. Love the pillows and the colors you used. I have a question about the corners and how to do the 2nd row. When it says to place 3 sc in each corner stitch where are those 3 sc stitches to go?. I have 5 stitches from the first round in that corner. I hope this makes sense.

  3. I really love the colours you’ve chosen for these pillows. What brand of yarn did you use? As I would like to do mine in the same colour. ?

    1. Thanks for the reply we don’t have that yarn in the UK. Would car on simply soft be ok to use?
