It’s finally time for Block #2 of our Stash Busting Sampler Afghan CAL!! This block features a fun stitch called the Diagonal Trip.
If you’re new here and want to know more about this crochet along, LOOK HERE.
The texture on this stitch is created by combining tall crochet stitches with short crochet stitches, in this case single crochet and treble crochet. I promise its not tricky. I think if you do some advance planning you could make some really neat patterns using this technique.

How to Crochet the Diagonal Trip Stitch.
I decided not to do a video of this pattern because there isn’t anything really tricky about how or where to put the stitches. They are just all neatly in a line. However, I will consider doing a Facebook live video on how to do this stitch if enough people need the help. So let me know in the group!!
For this stitch you’ll do a row of plain single crochet stitches and then a row with a series of treble crochet and single crochet stitches. This is the row that creates all the yummy texture.
Mine seamed to want to curl and twist but the bigger my square got, it straightened out.
If you want to use this stitch for a different project, you’ll have to chain a multiple of 6 plus 3 more chains.

I am very disappointed with this square. A base chain of 33 stitches is not enough. I completed it and put r rows of sc around as a border and it is still too small. If I redo it, I would start with a chain of 39 stitches – same as Block 1. Besides Verity, have others experienced similar problems with this square?
About how many yards does it take to make each 12″ square? I am going to make a blanket of 12 or 15 squares for my grandson and wanted to buy all the yarn at once. How many yards?
So far its been about 100-130 yds for each square depending on the stitch.
For some reason, even though I used the same weight of yarn and hook as with squares #1 and #3, this one has turned out half their size?? I might try it again but with a longer foundation chain… maybe 45 stitches…
I must crochet tight, I’m having to go up a hook size lol on both January squares.
You mention a multiple of 6 plus 3 in one area, and then 6 plus 2 in another. Which is correct?
Whoops I’ll fix it. Its 6 plus 3. 🙂
It still shows two different multiples here on the website.
If I am understanding correctly, I can use the multiple counts to make a scarf and/or blanket using this pattern?
thank you.
Absolutely!!
