The block stitch crochet cowl features and easy repetitive stitch and self-striping yarn. You’ll want to make one if every color!
This pattern is part of the 2019 Holiday Stashdown Crochet Along hosted by Marie from Underground Crafter in the CAL Central Crochet Facebook Group. Get your holiday crocheting done and use up your stash yarn too!
The block stitch cowl features the boxed block stitch we used early on in the 2019 Stash Busting Sampler Afghan Crochet Along.
This crochet stitch has just a 2-row repeat, which makes it easy to memorize. After your set up round, you’ll do a round of single crochets and chains. Then on the next round, you’ll double crochet into the chain spaces you made from the previous row. You just repeat those two rounds. This crochet stitch grows very quickly, making for a speedy project.
The yarn I chose for this crochet cowl was Red Heart’s Roll With It. This is a tweed-like self-striping worsted weight yarn with gradual color shifts. It is a little on the thicker side of worsted, more like Red Heart with Love than Caron Simply Soft, so keep that in mind if you are choosing a substitute yarn from your stash. Overall I found this yarn soft and easy to work with.

Hello again, may I ask what colorway is used for this pattern? Thanks so much. 🙂
Its “popular pink” 🙂
Thank you, I just bought the color today. 🙂
Hi! Thanks so much for the patterns. A friend I’d mine taught me how to read a pattern this past year.
I made this neck cowl, and embellished a bit. I had a rosette I crocheted, so I fastened it to the neck cowl.
Thank you, it was fun and easy to make.
I’d love to send you pictures.
The pattern says Red Heart Roll With It, is it Roll With It Tweed, Melange, etc? Thanks so much.
Its the Tweed.
Thank you, there are a few Roll With It yarns from Red Heart, it’s a little confusing sometimes. 🙂
