It’s time to start part 3 of our 2022 Stash Busting Sampler Crochet Along!

All this year we are working on a row by row crochet stitch sampler throw. We will learn approximately 30 new stitches to use on future projects and end up with a beautiful keepsake too. You can find out all about this crochet along here. It’s not too late to join!

THE STITCHES

This month’s stitches are the happy hearts stitch, zig-zag lozenge and the crossed double crochet.

We are starting with the Happy Hearts Stitch! I’ve seen a few different variations of this stitch. This one features alternating rows of double crochets and shell stitches to create the hearts. You will want to use 2 colors for this stitch!

Next up is the Zig Zag Lozenge. I think this stitch looks like little flowers! This stitch features alternating rows of half double crochet v-stitches and cluster stitches. I needed to go down a full millimeter hook size to a 4.5mm for this stitch to keep the edges in line with the rest of the blanket. It is a naturally wide stitch.

The last stitch in part 4 is the Crossed Double Crochet. To make this stitch you will skip 1 stitch, double crochet in the next stitch, and then go back and make a double crochet in that initial skipped stitch. I love that this stitch is lacy but also has a good texture.

Materials and Pattern Information

  • Your chosen worsted weight yarn
  • 5.5mm crochet hook
  • Scissors and yarn needle

Gauge: 6 dc x 4 rows = 2 inches

This is a little tricky, given it is such a mix of stitches. I would say the stitch part of the gauge is easier to get correct for this particular project. As long as your first 2 rows are measuring approximately 42 inches across you should be good.

Measurements: 42 in across x 21 in tall
