The Even Bobble Stitch is made by making a group of half-finished double crochet stitches all in the same stitch. This creates a raised bobble on your project.
There are so many different variations for the bobble stitch. You can make them squished close together, offset, in fancy designs like a heart or letter of the alphabet, spaced apart, or with pretty much any stitch between rows.
You can see an offset and striped version here!
Even with all the different configurations the general way to make a bobble stays the same. It is a dc5tog worked all in the same stitch. You’ll make the first half of 5 double crochets and finish them all simultaneously.
It is then anchored down with the next stitch, usually a single crochet. This forces the bobble to show on the front of your project. Bobbles are always made on wrong-side rows.

2024 Crochet Along: Square 18
We are working on block 18 of our Terrific Textures Crochet Along. This is a year-long CAL running here on The Unraveled Mitten, we are learning a new textured crochet stitch every week other week. Around the end of October, we will join our stitch sampler squares into a cozy blanket.
Don’t want to jump around to see each square?
You can purchase the PDF version of this pattern in my shop. It includes the materials list, all 20 squares as well as instructions for the joining and border.
You can find written instructions for this stitch above. You’ll notice that the instructions are written so you can use this stitch in other places besides this CAL. You can find my notes on how I made my 12-inch square listed below.
- yds worsted weight yarn, Red Heart Super Saver used in sample
- 5.5 mm crochet hook
- Scissors + Yarn Needle
- Gauge: 6 hdc x 6 rows = 2 in worked in pattern stitch
- Finished Size: 12 in x 12 in
This is what I did:
- Ch 36 to start (1st row should have 35 sts)
- Follow stitch instructions above until your square is the desired size. For me this was 33 rows. You may need more or less.
- After final row do not finish off, move on to border.
Border Instructions: Do not finish off, working on front side of square, ch 1, sc evenly around placing (sc, ch 2 sc) in each corner space. Join to top of 1st sc with sl st. Finish off weave in ends. Block to 12 inches. (Each side should have 35 stitches)
