The raised brick stitch is a beautifully textured crochet stitch that looks similar to how you stack bricks. Rows of staggered post stitches are used to create this stitch.

I think this would make a cozy blanket especially using a bulky or super bulky weight yarn. I do think that this stitch really stands out when its worked in a solid color OR large blocks of color.

If you are familiar with the waffle or double waffle stitch, this will feel very similar. After a couple of set-up rows, there is a repeat of 4 rows. The back side of this stitch is smooth, while the front (even rows) hold all the texture.

2024 Crochet Along: Square 19

We are working on block 19 of our Terrific Textures Crochet Along. This is a year-long CAL running here on The Unraveled Mitten, we are learning a new textured crochet stitch every week other week. Around the end of October, we will join our stitch sampler squares into a cozy blanket.

You can find more info here.

Don’t want to jump around to see each square?

You can purchase the PDF version of this pattern in my shop. It includes the materials list, all 20 squares as well as instructions for the joining and border.

You can find written instructions for this stitch above. You’ll notice that the instructions are written so you can use this stitch in other places besides this CAL. You can find my notes on how I made my 12-inch square listed below.

  • 125 yds worsted weight yarn, Red Heart Super Saver used in sample
  •  5.5 mm crochet hook
  • Scissors + Yarn Needle
  • Gauge: 7 sts x 3.5 rows = 2 in
    • worked in pattern stitch
  • Finished Size: 12 in x 12 in after blocking

This is what I did:

  • Ch 37 to start (1st row should have 35 sts)
  • Follow stitch instructions above until your square is the desired size. For me this was 26 rows. You may need more or less.
  • After final row do not finish off, move on to border.

Border Instructions: Do not finish off, working on front side of square, ch 1, sc evenly around placing (sc, ch 2 sc) in each corner space. Join to top of 1st sc with sl st. Finish off weave in ends. Block to 12 inches. (Each side should have 35 stitches)
