Learn to make the the Tunisian Crochet Brick stitch following this tutorial. This striking geometric stitch uses 2 colors and creates a grid or brick like pattern perfect for blankets, accessories and home decor.

This stitch looks like it might be complicated but it is easier than it looks, I promise! It is mostly made with Tunisian simple stitch and some Long Tunisian Front Post Double Crochet (LTFpDc) are added to create the brick or grid pattern.
Now I know that is quite possible one of the longest crochet stitch names ever but its actually really easy, especially if you already know how to make a tunisian double crochet.
Instead of inserting your hook into the front vertical bar only, it is inserted under the back and front vertical bar 2 rows below.

Materials and Pattern Information
- 110 yds worsted weight yarn, I Love This Yarn used in sample
- 2 Colors Needed
- 6.5 mm Tunisian crochet hook
- 6 mm crochet hook (for border)
- Scissors + Yarn Needle
Gauge and Sizing
- Gauge: 6 sts x 6 rows = 2 in
- Worked in pattern stitch
- Finished Size: 12 in x 12 in after blocking

Special Stitches
Tunisian Simple Stitch (TSS): Insert hook from right to left under the vertical bar of the stitch, yarn over, pull up loop.
Last Tunisian Stitch (LTS): Insert hook from right to left under 2 vertical bars at edge of work, yarnover, pull up loop.
Standard Return Pass: yo, pull through 1 loop, *yo, pull through 2 loops, repeat from * across until 1 loop remains on hook.
Long Tunisian Front Post Double Crochet (LTFpDc): Yo, insert hook from right to left under back and front vertical bars 2 rows below, yo, pull up loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook.
Notes
- Last loop on the hook after return pass counts as 1st loop of next row forward pass
- Some curling
- To modify size, chain any multiple of 4+1

Tunisian Brick Stitch Written Instructions
Row 1: Using CA, ch 37, Insert hook into 2nd ch from hook, yo, pull up loop. *insert hook into next ch, yo, pull up loop. Repeat from * across, keeping all loops on hook. (37 Loops). Complete standard return pass change to CB on last 2 loops.
Row 2: Continuing with CB, TSS in each stitch across until 1 bar remains unworked, LTS in final stitch. (37 loops). Complete standard return pass, change to CA on last 2 loops
Row 3: Continuing with CA, Tss 3, work LTFpDc in next st 2 rows below. *Tss 3, LTFpDc in next st 2 rows below. Repeat from * to last st. Replace final LtFpDc with an LTS. (37 loops). Complete standard return pass. Change to CB on last 2 loops
Row 4: Repeat row 2
Row 5: Continuing with CA, Tss 1, work LTFpDc in next st 2 rows below, *Tss 3, LTFpDc in next st 2 rows below. Repeat from * to last 2 sts. Tss 1. Lts in final st. (37 loops). Complete standard return pass. Change to CB on last 2 loops.
Repeat row 2-5 until block is square. End with either a repeat of row 3 or 5. Do not change color on final row. For me this was 31 rows. Continue to border.
Border: Do not finish off. Using 6 mm crochet hook, ch 1, sc evenly around, placing (sc, ch 2 sc) in each corner. Join to top of 1st sc with slst. Finish off, weave in ends. Block to 12 inches.
**Note: the number of single crochets worked on each raw edge should be the same number as the top and bottom edges. You may have to add or subtract stitches to get the correct # of stitches on the raw edges. Each square will have around 36 (+/- a couple of stitches, depending on the stitch multiple) to make joining easy and flat.
