Chunky Bobble Christmas Tree Skirt | Add some holiday cheer to your Christmas home decor with this quick crochet Christmas tree skirt.

Are looking for a quick way to add a little crochet to your holiday home décor this year? Adding a crochet Christmas tree skirt under your tree is a great place to start. Make one for yourself or give it as a gift!

Back in 2018, I started this chunky crochet Christmas tree skirt to use it at Christmas that year.

But like lots of projects, I made it partway and added it to my PHD (projects half done pile), and there it sat…until now. I am beyond happy with how this finished project turned out. Is going down in the books as one of my favorites. The chunky yarn, the big fat bobbles, the pretty scalloped border….. I love it.

The Let it Snow Christmas Tree Skirt is worked up in a super bulky yarn, which makes it pretty fast to make despite the fact that it took me 2 years. I used my favorite super bulky yarn, Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick. I choose the color fisherman, which is a creamy off white color.

This skirt ended up being 37 inches in diameter. It fits nicely under my tree. This is the medium size. The small (27 inches) and large (47 inches) are included in the PDf version for sale in my shop.

The Crochet Bobble Stitch

Like most things I make, there had to be some texture. That’s where these amazing chunky bobbles come in! This super bulky yarn makes these bobbles so big and fat and squishy… like little snowballs.

To make a bobble, repeat these instructions 5 times all in the same stitch: yarnover insert hook into the stitch and pull up a loop, pull through two loops. Then yarnover and pull through all 6 loops on your hook. It’s a double crochet 5 stitches together all in the same stitch.

Bobbles are worked on the “wrong side” of your project. They will pop out automatically on the front of the tree skirt once you secure them by making the next stitch.

  1. I would like to make this a section larger. I can figure out the rest of the rounds but need help on how the bobble round would read. Could you give instructions for this? I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

      1. Ok I missed the hook size. Using the bigger hook is going to make it a circle, not barely a 2/3 circle?

  2. The reason it is so popular is because it is easy and beautiful. I made it a couple of years ago. I may need to make a smaller one for my smaller tree this year.

  3. I made this, but I wanted it to be smaller for our pencil tree. I used weight 4 yarn and a size 5 hook. It ended up not being a circle 🙁 (I assumed the pattern would just scale down, but alas I was wrong) I may make it again with the same hook and yarn but instead adding an additional 6 to the initial chain (that’s how I ended up fixing mine, it has a bit of a scar now where I joined it together as I was working but I think that makes it unique)

Thank you so much for sharing this pattern, it matches the cozy vibe I’m going for this year! ❤️

    1. I would like like to make this pattern with # 4 weight yarn. Would author or anyone advise what changes are necessary.
      TY

  4. I just finished my tree skirt. It was such as easy-to-follow pattern, and it turned out soooo cute! Thank you for sharing your talent so generously with us.

  5. Great pattern! I’m really looking forward to attempting it for this year. Would you happen to have a video explaining? I’m still a beginner when it comes to crochet

  6. Hi, thank you so much for putting this up as a free pattern. Could you please tell me how big the center opening is?
