Are looking for a quick way to add a little crochet to your holiday home décor this year? Adding a crochet Christmas tree skirt under your tree is a great place to start. Make one for yourself or give it as a gift!
Back in 2018, I started this chunky crochet Christmas tree skirt to use it at Christmas that year.
But like lots of projects, I made it partway and added it to my PHD (projects half done pile), and there it sat…until now. I am beyond happy with how this finished project turned out. Is going down in the books as one of my favorites. The chunky yarn, the big fat bobbles, the pretty scalloped border….. I love it.
The Let it Snow Christmas Tree Skirt is worked up in a super bulky yarn, which makes it pretty fast to make despite the fact that it took me 2 years. I used my favorite super bulky yarn, Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick. I choose the color fisherman, which is a creamy off white color.

This skirt ended up being 37 inches in diameter. It fits nicely under my tree. This is the medium size. The small (27 inches) and large (47 inches) are included in the PDf version for sale in my shop.
The Crochet Bobble Stitch
Like most things I make, there had to be some texture. That’s where these amazing chunky bobbles come in! This super bulky yarn makes these bobbles so big and fat and squishy… like little snowballs.
To make a bobble, repeat these instructions 5 times all in the same stitch: yarnover insert hook into the stitch and pull up a loop, pull through two loops. Then yarnover and pull through all 6 loops on your hook. It’s a double crochet 5 stitches together all in the same stitch.
Bobbles are worked on the “wrong side” of your project. They will pop out automatically on the front of the tree skirt once you secure them by making the next stitch.

Any thoughts on how I might convert this pattern to use worsted weight yarn instead of chunky yarn? I would like to use yarn that matches the bobble stockings I made.
The pattern is beautiful! I had to improvise because I wanted to use yarn I already had. Used 2 strands of Lion Brand Pound of Love which says 4 weight, but it is lighter than that. With an 8mm hook. Pattern worked out well with just a few extra stitches in the rounds to make the ends meet. Looks amazing under my tree, thank you for the pattern!
I’m using the listed brands of super bulky 6 yarn and 9mm hook, gauge is exact. I’m 14 rounds into this. My skirt is not coming out to a circle. I’m missing about 1/4 making it look more like a horseshoe. Will the sides eventually meet? Can anyone comment on whether it does become a full circle?
Mine ended up having a “gap” in the circle too however I think it is designed to kinda flow up a tree stand a bit which in turn closes off the circle. If that makes sense.
I’m not too sure why you would be having a large gap. If the stitch count for each row is correct, your gauge may be off a little. I would go up a hook size and see if that helps.
