
The Autumn Beauty 12-inch crochet blanket square pattern features a floral motif with a textured puff stitch center that was inspired by the beautiful sunflowers in my garden.
We’ve made it!! This is block #20 of our 2021 Stash Busting Crochet Along. Give yourselves a pat on the back. Today’s square was designed by me! I’ve been waiting and waiting to share this square pattern with you all because I’ve had it finished since last December.

Since I had this square done for so long, I restitched it recently to make sure my pattern was done correctly, and I took the opportunity to change up the colors too.

- Category #4/worsted weight yarn
- Sample 1: Lion brand Vanna’s Choice in Fisherman, taupe, silver grey, linen
- Sample 2: Bernat Super Value Forest Green and Stylecraft Special Aran Parchment
- 5mm crochet hook
- Scissors, tapestry needle
- Blocking Supplies
Gauge: Circle should measure approx. 4.5 in after rnd 4
Size: 12 in square after blocking
Abbreviations
- Us Terminology
- Ch(s): chain(s)
- Dc: double crochet
- PS: puff stitch (see instructions below)
- BLO: back loop only
- Sc: single crochet
- Hdc: half double crochet

Puff Stitch: yo, insert hook into stitch indicated, pull up loop, [yo, insert hook into same stitch, pull up loop] 3 times. Yo pull through all loops on hook. Ch 1 to close stitch

Notes
Square is worked in joined rounds
Some rippling is normal, you will need to block your square
Beginning chains do not count as a stitch unless otherwise stated.
If you need to make your square bigger repeat round 12 until its the correct size
If you need to make your square smaller, leave off rnd 11
Color Changes:
You can change color after any round you prefer, but this is how I did it:
Rnd 1: Taupe | Rnd 4: linen | Rnd 8-9: Silver grey |
Rnd 2: Fisherman | Rnd 5: Taupe | Rnd 10: Linen |
Rnd 3: Silver Grey | Rnd 6-7: Fisherman | Rnd 11-12: Taupe |

Rnd 1: Ch 5, sl st to form ring. 12 dc in ring. Join to top of 1st dc with sl st. (12)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, PS in same st as ch 1, *ch 1, PS in next repeat around. Join to 1st puff st with sl st. (12 PS, 12 Spaces)
Rnd 3: ch 2, dc in same st as ch 2, * 2dc in ch -1 space, dc in next st, repeat from * around. 2 dc in last ch-1 space. Join to top of 1st dc with sl st. (36)
Rnd 4: Ch 1, PS in same st as ch 1, PS in next, *ch 1, skip 1, PS in next 2, repeat from * around. Ch 1, skip last st. Join to 1st PS with sl st. (24 PS, 12 spaces)
Rnd 5: Ch 2, dc in same st as ch 2, *dc between PS, dc in next st, 2 dc in next ch-1 space, Dc in next st. Repeat from * around, 2 dc in last ch-1 space. Join to top of 1st st with sl st. (60)
Rnd 6: Ch 2, working in BLO only, 2 dc in same st as ch 2, * dc 4, 2dc in next. Repeat from * around. Dc in last 4. Join to top of 1st dc with sl st. (72)
Rnd 7: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc in same st as ch 3, * skip 1, sc in next, skip 1, 5dc in next. Repeat from * around until 3 sts remain. Skip 1 st, sc in next, skip last st, 2 dc in same st as beginning ch 3. Join to top of ch 3 with sl st. (18 shells)
Rnd 8: Ch 1, working in BLO, sc in same st as ch 1, *hdc 2, dc, hdc 2, sc, repeat from * around. Join to top of 1st sc with sl st. (108)
Rnd 9: Ch 1, sc in same st as ch 1, sc 6, * hdc 3, dc 2, tr, (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in next, tr, dc 2, hdc 3, sc 14. Repeat from * around, ending final repeat after 7 sc. Join to top of 1st sc with sl st. (30 sts on each side)
Rnd 10: Ch 1, sc in same st as ch 1, sc 4, *hdc 5, dc 5, (2dc, ch 2, 2dc) in corner ch-2 space, dc 5, hdc 5, sc 10. Repeat from * around, ending final repeat after 5 sc. Join to top of 1st sc with sl st. (34 sts on each side)
Rnd 11: Ch 1, hdc in same st as ch 1, *hdc across to ch-2 space, (2 dc, ch 2, 2dc) in ch-2 space. Repeat from * 3 more times. Hdc to end of round. Join to top of 1st hdc with sl st. (38 sts on each side)
Rnd 12: Ch 1, sc in same st as ch 1, * sc across to ch-2 space, (sc, ch 1, sc) in ch-2 space. Repeat from * 3 more times. Sc to end of round. Join to top of 1st sc with sl st. Finish off, weave in ends and block.
