Use this crochet stocking pattern to create an heirloom that will be treasured for years to come. This textured Christmas stocking has a classic look that will never go out of style.
I am still on a mission to make everyone in my family a Christmas stocking. This is design number 3 so there are just 2 more to go.
How to Crochet a Stocking
This stocking worked from the toe up and features a short row heel and textured half double crochet stitching on the main portion of the stocking.
The toe is made just like you would a top-down hat. Each round features increases until its reaches a certain size.
The foot and leg are working in front and back loop half double crochet. I love the texture of this easy stitch. You will turn after each round for these 2 portions of this stocking. This helps retain the texture of the stitch.
The heel is a bit tricky but I know you can do it. You’ll actually crochet this part in rows! I have a photo tutorial within the pattern as well as a video tutorial. The video is for my fair isle stockings but the heel is done the same.

Short Row Heel
The heel is worked in short rows. You’ll be working in turned rows now instead of rounds. We are going to make a pyramid shape (well a ziggurat if we are getting specific) by decreasing at the start and end of the first 7 rows. Then we are going to go back and pick up the stitches we decreased until we have 24 stitches again
