Today you will learn the Harvest Crochet Stitch. This easy crochet stitch pattern features rows of stacked puff stitch v-stitches that remind me of the head of a stalk of wheat.
This crochet stitch would be perfect for various crochet projects including blankets, scarves, hats, and homewares. I used this puff v-stitch in my Fly Away Beanie pattern a few years ago! It also has a one row repeat and looks the same on both sides.
The main component of this stitch is the Puff V-Stitch, which is a puff stitch, ch 1 and another puff stitch all worked into the same stitch. Doing this creates those textured v’s you see in the pattern.
If you’ve tried this stitch before, you may notice it is slightly different than the other versions out there. I also tried those but they were a little too holey for the look I was going for. So I modified it to make this version.
Instead of skipping 2 stitches before and after each Puff stitch V, I only skipped 1. I also used a ch-1 between each puff stitch rather than a ch-2.
These changes gave me the tight look I wanted.

2024 Crochet Along: Square 14
We are working on block 14 of our Terrific Textures Crochet Along. This is a year-long CAL running here on The Unraveled Mitten, we are learning a new textured crochet stitch every week other week. Around the end of October, we will join our stitch sampler squares into a cozy blanket.
Don’t want to jump around to see each square?
You can purchase the PDF version of this pattern in my shop. It includes the materials list, all 20 squares as well as instructions for the joining and border.
You can find written instructions for this stitch above. You’ll notice that the instructions are written so you can use this stitch in other places besides this CAL. You can find my notes on how I made my 12-inch square listed below.
- 125 yds worsted weight yarn, Red Heart Super Saver used in sample
- 5.5 mm crochet hook
- Scissors + Yarn Needle
- Gauge: 7 sts x 3.5 rows = 2 in
- Finished Size: 12 in x12 in
This is what I did:
- Ch 38 to start (1st row should have 37 sts)
- Follow stitch instructions above until your square is the desired size. For me this was 20 rows. You may need more or less.
- After final row do not finish off, move on to border.
Border Instructions: Do not finish off, working on front side of square, ch 1, sc evenly around placing (sc, ch 2 sc) in each corner space. Join to top of 1st sc with sl st. Finish off weave in ends. Block to 12 inches. (Each side should have 37 stitches)
