The Taffy Stripe Baby Blanket is made using the c2c block stitch in a rectangular shape instead of a square and features a unique striping design. It reminds me of a striped candy.

I made the original version of this blanket years ago when my nephew was born, and I have always intended to add the crochet pattern to my website. When I went to remake a sample of the pattern, I didn’t want to just use the typical corner-to-corner, so I decided to make it rectangular!

How to Make a C2C Rectangle

The traditional way to make the C2C block stitch is to increase on both sides until your project is the desired height and width, then decrease on both sides until you get to the opposite corner you started in.

To make a rectangle you work the C2C block stitch, increasing on both sides until your project is the desired width.

Then you do a 2-row repeat decreasing along one side and increasing on the other until the height you want is reached.

To finish it off, you decrease on both sides until you get to the opposite corner.

Tips for Making the Taffy Stripe Baby Blanket

To make this blanket you will need 4 colors of Caron Simply Soft or similar yarn; a light and a dark color (white and gray) as well as 2 coordinating colors (lavendar and mint).

There are so many color options for this blanket! The original square version was made with chocolate brown, cream, light blue and guacamole green.

I opted to make a simple double crochet border, but feel free to change it up and use any border you want. My original blanket used the Camel Stitch Border, but I think a Scalloped Border like I used on this blanket would look great too.
