The Harvest Stitch Crochet Hat is a cozy accessory perfect for chilly days. This beautifully textured hat is effortless to style and easily customizable.
I first fell in love with the harvest stitch years ago when I designed the Fly Away Beanie. Then, fast-forward a couple of years: I used this stitch on a textured sampler blanket and knew I needed to create a pattern with it again.
The Details
This hat is worked from the bottom up, starting with a ribbed brim made with back loop only single crochet. You have the option of making a long brim to fold over or a short brim.
After a set-up round of single crochet to create a clean edge between the brim and body, the harvest stitch is worked in rounds up toward the crown of the hat.
The harvest stitch is basically a V-stitch made using puff stitches with some double crochets in between. The v-puff stitches are stacked on top of each other, and it resembles a stalk of wheat.
At the top of the hat, there are a couple of rounds of decreasing stitches to help with the shaping. Then it is cinched together at the top.
I added a faux fur yarn pompom at the top of the brown version and a gold yarn pom pom on my tweed one.

How do I make this hat bigger or smaller?
To modify the size of this hat do more or fewer rows on the band in multiples of 5. Then move on to the body portion.
If you want it shorter (say for a child) do fewer body rounds before you move on to the crown shaping.
Materials and Pattern Information
I used Red Heart Super Saver yarn to make this hat, but any thicker worsted-weight yarn will work – I love this Yarn, Vanna’s Choice, Bernat Super Value, etc are all great options. Using a thinner worsted like Caron Simply Soft or Lion Brand Heartland will most likely result in a smaller hat.

- Scissors + Yarn Needle
Gauge: 8 BLO Sc x 7 rows = 2 in
Sizing
