How to change color on the return pass.
There are 3 main places to change color in Tunisian crochet: at the beginning of the forward pass, in the middle of the row for colorwork patterns, and at the beginning of the return pass.
All the way back in square 1, we learned to change color on the forward pass. Today, we are going to change color on the return pass.

Drape the color yarn over your hook and pull through 1 loop, this counts as the chain 1, then complete the return pass as normal.
The chains of the return pass run through the vertical bars of the forward pass, creating a woven look.
I carried my yarn up the side of my square since we are changing color so frequently.

2-Tone Stripes Tunisian Crochet Blanket Square Pattern
Foundation Row 1: Using Color A, ch 35. Insert hook into 2nd ch from hook, yo, pull up loop. *insert hook into next ch, yo, pull up loop. Repeat from * across, keeping all loops on hook. (35 Loops). Change to Color B. Complete standard return pass.
Row 2: *TSS across until 1 bar remains unworked, LTS in final stitch. (35 loops). Change to Color A. Complete standard return pass.
Row 3: *TSS across until 1 bar remains unworked, LTS in final stitch. (35 loops). Change to Color B. Complete standard return pass.
Row 4-End: repeat rows 2 & 3 until block is square. For me this was 30 rows, but after putting it on my blocking board I wish I would have done a couple more rows.
Bind off Row: Insert your hook under 2nd vertical bar. Yo, pull through the vertical bar and loop on your hook. *Insert your hook under next vertical bar, yo, pull through the vertical bar and loop on your hook. Repeat from * across. Continue to border.
Border: Using desired border color and 6 mm crochet hook, ch 1, sc evenly around, placing (sc, ch 2 sc) in each corner. Join to top of 1st sc with slst. Finish off, weave in ends. Block to 12 inches. (35 Sc on each side)
**Note: the number of single crochets worked on each raw edge should be the same number as the top and bottom edges. You may have to add or subtract stitches to get 35 on the raw edges. Each square will have around 35 (+/- a couple stitches, depending on the stitch multiple) to make joining easy and flat.
