UPDATE 11/2022: This crochet along is now over but all the patterns will stay here on the blog for you to use at any time.

I wasn’t going to do this again this year, but I just can’t help it! Someone made a suggestion about doing a sampler afghan in rows rather than blocks on one of my posts in the Facebook group and I just couldn’t get the idea out of my head.

So, here we are. Ready to start a new crochet-along in the new year!

What are we making?

We are making a sampler throw that will be about 48 x 60. Instead of blocks, we are doing rows of different stitches. I’ll have it split up into 10 different sections of about 3 stitches each. Sometimes less, sometimes more.

I’ll release a new section at the beginning of each month and then in the weeks following I’ll release video tutorials to go with each stitch. This will give you the opportunity to work the entire section at one time or wait for a tutorial.

Each section will be about 6 inches tall.

I love learning (and teaching you) new crochet stitches! That is exactly why I couldn’t resist planning this crochet along. By the time we are finished with this blanket, you’ll have mastered a whole bunch of new stitches to use on your future projects.

What is a Crochet Along?

A crochet along is pretty much just how it sounds. A group of us work together on the same crochet pattern. You can just follow along by email or you can join our crochet group on Facebook for even more fun!

Yarn

I had a specific color look in mind that I wanted for this blanket but out of the yarns I typically use I couldn’t get it to look just right. So I stepped out and tried a new to me yarn!

I settled on Loops and Threads Impeccable from Michaels. I really took a leap of faith with this yarn because I ordered it online to pick up in-store! The nearest Michaels to me is a good 45 minutes+ away and I didn’t want to take a chance of them not having the colors I wanted when I got there.  You can only order shipped to you yarn from them in groups of 3 and since I only needed 1 ball of each color I had to do pick up.

I am so thrilled with this yarn. Not only are the colors beautiful but it’s soft too. This is a standard worsted acrylic yarn similar to Red Heart Super Saver or Paintbox Simply Aran. I ordered 10 balls in 10 different colors.

This is a great stash-busting crochet pattern! You can use colors from your stash or buy new ones if you are wanting a specific color look.

If you don’t have Michael’s store near you here are a few other yarns I recommend:

Materials List

  • 2850 yds Loops and Threads Impeccable or similar #4 worsted weight yarn.  * Please note this is approximate, more or less may be needed.
  • I chose to use 10 colors (listed below)
  • Misty Blue
  • Pale Gray
  • Smoke
  • Putty
  • Plum
  • Barley
  • Classic Gray
  • Golden Beige
  • Green Lagoon
  • True Gray

Please choose as many or as few colors as you want. I would say to at least pick 3 though. This could also be a great scrap buster project!

  • Hook: 5.5mm
  • Other supplies: scissors, yarn needle, stitch markers

Schedule

A new part will be released on the 1st Tuesday of every month, with the exception of February.  Video tutorials for stitches will be released at the rate of 1 per week on the Tuesdays following.

This schedule is tentative and could possibly change as we get further into the project. I’ll keep you updated here and through email as we progress.

  1. Love doing this CAL! Thank you.

Has part 9 been released? The date says Oct 4th, but I am not able to find the link.

  2. This will be neat! I am already a couple of weeks behind but will try to catch up. Do you have a base chain length? Or shall I get outmy handy tape measure?

    1. I’m making multiple blankets of the design because the part size is so manageable. And they’ll all be ready for holiday giving. Plus, it keeps me busy longer as I wait for the next part. 😁

  3. I love the stitches in this CAL. Your instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Also, I am using yarns from my stash, which gives me the opportunity to use up yarns that are colors I really like. I have completed Part 1 and am anxious to be able to start Part 2. Thanks so much!
