I wasn’t going to do this again this year, but I just can’t help it! Someone made a suggestion about doing a sampler afghan in rows rather than blocks on one of my posts in the Facebook group and I just couldn’t get the idea out of my head.
So, here we are. Ready to start a new crochet-along in the new year!
What are we making?
We are making a sampler throw that will be about 48 x 60. Instead of blocks, we are doing rows of different stitches. I’ll have it split up into 10 different sections of about 3 stitches each. Sometimes less, sometimes more.
I’ll release a new section at the beginning of each month and then in the weeks following I’ll release video tutorials to go with each stitch. This will give you the opportunity to work the entire section at one time or wait for a tutorial.
Each section will be about 6 inches tall.
I love learning (and teaching you) new crochet stitches! That is exactly why I couldn’t resist planning this crochet along. By the time we are finished with this blanket, you’ll have mastered a whole bunch of new stitches to use on your future projects.
What is a Crochet Along?
A crochet along is pretty much just how it sounds. A group of us work together on the same crochet pattern. You can just follow along by email or you can join our crochet group on Facebook for even more fun!

Yarn
I had a specific color look in mind that I wanted for this blanket but out of the yarns I typically use I couldn’t get it to look just right. So I stepped out and tried a new to me yarn!
I settled on Loops and Threads Impeccable from Michaels. I really took a leap of faith with this yarn because I ordered it online to pick up in-store! The nearest Michaels to me is a good 45 minutes+ away and I didn’t want to take a chance of them not having the colors I wanted when I got there. You can only order shipped to you yarn from them in groups of 3 and since I only needed 1 ball of each color I had to do pick up.
I am so thrilled with this yarn. Not only are the colors beautiful but it’s soft too. This is a standard worsted acrylic yarn similar to Red Heart Super Saver or Paintbox Simply Aran. I ordered 10 balls in 10 different colors.
This is a great stash-busting crochet pattern! You can use colors from your stash or buy new ones if you are wanting a specific color look.
If you don’t have Michael’s store near you here are a few other yarns I recommend:
- Red Heart Super Saver
- Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice
- Paintbox Simply Aran
- Bernat Super Value
Materials List
- 2850 yds Loops and Threads Impeccable or similar #4 worsted weight yarn. * Please note this is approximate, more or less may be needed.
